While the Foundation has already made a mark with its highly successful international short fiction film festival, an annual event held 1-5 November, organized jointly with the Goethe Institute / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata with the support of Patton, its new projects include a series of annual lectures by eminent personalities on vital issues pertaining to the arts; and the revival of the periodical Cinewave in English with at least one special issue in a year; and a competition for original filmscripts for short fiction films for the VIVADA Award.
The Kalpanirjhar Foundation, Kolkata founded in 2001, is committed to developing a democratic platform for the study and creative use of the entire range of the audiovisual media, particularly in their role in social critique, change and development.

Aimed at practitioners and professionals, it hopes to grow towards an informal network ready to share ideas and experiences and envisage and devise strategies and methods for positive changes in these fields and other related areas.
The Foundation is engaged in initiating and continuing and maintaining dialogues between the makers and the consumers/viewers/listeners, sustaining an interactive field of creativity for a cause.
The Foundation presently has the following projects:
- An Annual International film festival for short fiction
- An annual lecture by an eminent personality on vital issues pertaining to the arts
- A competition for original filmscripts for short fiction films for the VIVADA Award
- Publication of a periodical Cinewave with one special issue a year, in English
As part of its regular programme, the Foundation will arrange and organize lectures, workshops, debates, discussions, seminars, festivals and exhibitions related to cinema and other performing media and the visual arts and literature, and inter-disciplinary interactions, and publish monographs, portfolios etc. to disseminate information and creative ideas in these fields.
