Fourth Kalpanirjhar International Short Fiction Film Festival 2006

The fourth Kalpanirjhar International Short Fiction Film Festival, 27–31 October 2006, was inaugurated by Soumitra Chattterjee, the eminent actor, with Mrinal Sen as the Guest of Honour; with a Power Point presentation on the earlier sessions of the Festival, and reproductions by eminent painters offered to raise funds for the previous year’s Festival.  Distinguished guests present on the stage included Dr Martin Waelde, Director, Goethe Institute / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata; Nicolas Blasquez, Director, The French Association, Kolkata; Bhaskar K Rajah, Director, Cultural Affairs, American Center, Kolkata; and Sanjay Budhia, Managing Director, Patton India Limited.

The inaugural film was Little Terrorist, directed by Ashvin Kumar.  The Festival featured selections from the package Gestures of Reconciliation, with films from eleven countries affected by World War II, taking a close look at the aftermath; works by new US women directors; films from film schools, including La Fémis, Paris; Film and TV Institute of India, Pune; and German Film Schools in Berlin, Potsdam, and Munich; and ‘Shoot Goals! Shoot Films!’ – a package of 44 films from all over the world dedicated to the FIFA World Cup.
